ERA5, which stands for the fifth generation of the ECMWF reanalysis, encompasses a comprehensive dataset of global climate and weather information spanning eight decades. Starting from 1940, ERA5 supersedes the previous ERA-Interim reanalysis and offers detailed estimations on various atmospheric, ocean-wave, and land-surface parameters on an hourly basis. In this specific case study, the analysis focused on precipitation data extracted from ERA5, specifically the hourly records observed within the Aliakmonas basin between 2017 and 2021.
